10 best scriptures that will guide you towards finding inner peace

Feeling a bit stressed out lately? Don’t worry, we all do sometimes. But wouldn’t it be great if we could find some peace and calm within ourselves? Guess what? We can!

In this article, I’m going to share with you ten amazing pieces of wisdom. They come from all sorts of different beliefs and religions. And they all have one thing in common: they help us find inner peace.

These aren’t just any sayings, though. They’re special. They’ve been used for hundreds of years to help people feel better when life gets tough.

Ready for a journey? Great! Let’s dive into these powerful words together.

1. “Peace comes from within. Do not seek it without.” – Buddha

Do you ever catch yourself thinking, “I’ll be happy when…”? When you get that job, when you buy that car, when you go on that vacation? Well, the Buddha had some wisdom to share about this.

He said, “Peace comes from within. Do not seek it without.” Basically, this means that peace isn’t something we find outside of ourselves. It’s not in things or places or even other people.

It’s right inside of us!

We just need to learn how to tap into it. So next time you’re feeling stressed or overwhelmed, remember this quote. Take a deep breath, find a quiet place, and look for peace inside of you. You might be surprised at how much peace you can find there!

2. “Let him who would move the world first move himself.” – Socrates

Ever feel like you’re constantly fighting to change things around you? Your job, your relationships, your living situation? Here’s a piece of wisdom from Socrates that might make you pause.

He said, “Let him who would move the world first move himself.”

In other words, before we try to change anything else, we should start with ourselves. This is a powerful idea when it comes to finding inner peace.

Why? Because often, our lack of peace comes from trying to control things that are outside of our control. But the one thing we can always control? Our own actions and reactions.

So next time you’re feeling restless or like things aren’t going your way, remember this quote. Think about what changes you can make in yourself first. You might find a lot more peace within yourself that way!

3. “Be still and know.” – Psalm 46:10

This one is particularly dear to me. It’s from the Book of Psalms in the Bible and it simply says, “Be still and know.”

There were times in my life when everything felt chaotic and out of control. I would run around trying to fix everything, but things just seemed to get worse. Then one day, I stumbled upon this scripture.

“Be still and know.”

It was a reminder that sometimes, the best thing we can do is to just stop. Stop running, stop fixing, stop worrying. To just be still for a moment, breathe, and trust that things will work out.

This simple scripture brought me a sense of peace in those tough times. It reminded me that it’s okay to pause, to be still, and to trust in the process.

And you know what? Things did work out eventually.

4. “We are shaped by our thoughts; we become what we think.” – Buddha

Here’s another gem from Buddha: “We are shaped by our thoughts; we become what we think.” This isn’t just spiritual wisdom, it’s backed up by modern science too!

Did you know that your brain changes based on your thoughts? This phenomenon is called neuroplasticity. It means that the more you focus on certain thoughts, the stronger those connections become in your brain.

So if you constantly think stressful or negative thoughts, your brain gets better at being stressed and negative. But the good news is, it works the other way too! If you focus on peaceful and positive thoughts, your brain becomes better at finding peace and positivity.

Think of it like a muscle. The more you exercise peace, the stronger your ‘peace muscle’ becomes. So why not give it a try? Spend some time each day focusing on peaceful thoughts. It might just help you build that inner peace you’re looking for!

5. “Do not let the behavior of others destroy your inner peace.” – Dalai Lama

The Dalai Lama once said: “Do not let the behavior of others destroy your inner peace.” This is a powerful reminder, and one that resonates deeply within many of us.

We live in a world full of different people, each with their own thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. Sometimes, these can clash with our own. It can be really easy to let other people’s actions upset us, make us angry, or throw us off balance.

But here’s the thing: We can’t control other people. We can only control our own responses. And that’s where our power lies.

Your inner peace is precious. It’s a sanctuary that no one else should have access to disrupt. Protect it fiercely. Don’t give others the power to disturb your tranquility.

In the end, it’s not about ignoring or avoiding others, but about choosing peace over conflict. Every time you do that, you’re nurturing your own inner peace, making it stronger and more resilient.

6. “In the midst of movement and chaos, keep stillness inside of you.” – Deepak Chopra

This one from Deepak Chopra has personally helped me during some really hectic times: “In the midst of movement and chaos, keep stillness inside of you.”

I remember a time when I was juggling multiple projects at work, coordinating a house move, and dealing with some personal challenges all at once. It felt like I was in the middle of a storm with no escape in sight.

Then, I came across this quote. It reminded me that even though there was chaos around me, I could choose to keep a sense of calm within me.

So I started practicing this. In the middle of the busiest days, I’d take five minutes to close my eyes, breathe deeply, and visualize a calm lake within me. It wasn’t easy at first, but over time, it made a huge difference.

That inner calm became my anchor in the storm. It didn’t make the chaos go away, but it helped me navigate through it without losing myself.

7. “God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change.” – Reinhold Niebuhr

This one is a real kick in the gut sometimes. It’s from a prayer by Reinhold Niebuhr, and it goes: “God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change.”

Let’s be honest, accepting things we can’t change is hard. It’s frustrating. It feels like giving up. But here’s the raw truth: Some things are just beyond our control. We can’t change them, no matter how much we yell, cry, or bargain.

And you know what? That’s okay.

Life isn’t about constantly fighting against what is, but learning to flow with it. It doesn’t mean we stop trying or caring. It just means we stop letting these things consume us and steal our peace.

It’s a tough pill to swallow, but once we do, it can bring a deep sense of calm and relief.

8. “He who lives in harmony with himself lives in harmony with the universe.” – Marcus Aurelius

This quote by Marcus Aurelius, a Roman emperor and philosopher, offers a powerful insight: “He who lives in harmony with himself lives in harmony with the universe.”

Now here’s a fascinating fact: this ancient wisdom is actually echoed by modern science! Physics tells us that everything in the universe, including us, is made up of vibrating energy. When our thoughts and emotions are positive and harmonious, we literally vibrate at a higher frequency.

Some scientists believe that these vibrations can affect the world around us. So when we are in harmony within ourselves, we might just be helping to create a more harmonious universe!

So if you’re feeling out of sync with the world, maybe it’s time to look within. Find your inner harmony, and you might just find that the world around you starts to feel a bit more harmonious too!

9. “Peace is its own reward.” – Mahatma Gandhi

This quote from Mahatma Gandhi holds a special place in my heart: “Peace is its own reward.”

I used to chase after rewards all the time. A promotion at work, recognition from my peers, a new gadget or holiday. I thought these things would bring me happiness and peace. But even when I got them, the peace didn’t last.

Then I read this quote and it hit me: I was looking for peace in the wrong places. Peace isn’t something you find in external rewards. It’s something that comes from within.

When I started practicing mindfulness, gratitude, and self-compassion, I began to experience a sense of peace that wasn’t dependent on anything outside of me. It was liberating!

So if you’re looking for peace in achievements or material possessions, remember Gandhi’s wisdom. Peace is its own reward. And it’s a reward you can give yourself anytime, anywhere!

10. “Surrender to what is. Let go of what was. Have faith in what will be.” – Sonia Ricotti

Let’s get real with this one from Sonia Ricotti: “Surrender to what is. Let go of what was. Have faith in what will be.”

Sometimes, life throws us curveballs. Things don’t go as planned. We get hurt, we make mistakes, we lose people and things we love. It’s tough.

The truth is, life can be messy and unpredictable. And it’s in these times that this quote speaks volumes to me.

“Surrender to what is.” This means accepting reality instead of denying or fighting it. It’s about understanding that we can’t control everything, and that’s okay.

“Let go of what was.” This one’s a hard pill to swallow. We all have past regrets, mistakes, missed opportunities. But clinging onto them won’t change the past or bring peace.

“Have faith in what will be.” This is about trusting in the future, even when it seems uncertain or scary.

It’s raw and honest wisdom like this that reminds me to live in the present moment, accept my past, and look forward to the future with hope and faith.

Remember, finding inner peace is a journey, not a destination. It takes time and practice, but with these scriptures as your guide, you’re well on your way.
