People who still look incredibly young in their 60s and beyond usually display these 5 daily habits

Have you ever met someone in their 60s or 70s who looks years, if not decades, younger than their actual age?

It’s hard not to wonder what their secret is.

While genetics certainly play a role, through years of observing and learning from people who seem to have cracked the code, I have noticed habits have a profound impact on how we age — or, perhaps more importantly, how youthful we remain as we age.

Today, we’re diving into five of these daily habits that contribute to their timeless vitality.

If you’re aiming to age gracefully and maintain your youthful energy for decades to come, these might be just what you’re looking for.

Let’s get started.

1) Consistent exercise

Let me share a personal insight with you.

A few years ago, I met an incredibly youthful-looking woman named Jane, who was in her late 60s. She had a sparkle in her eyes, her skin was radiant, and her energy was contagious.

I was amazed when she revealed her age and immediately asked what her secret was. With a laugh, she told me it was no secret at all, just regular exercise.

Jane wasn’t talking about intense gym workouts or running marathons. She simply committed to moving her body every day. Whether it was a brisk walk in the park, a swim in the local pool, or even just gardening, Jane made sure she was active.

The benefits of regular exercise are no secret. As noted by Mayo Clinic staff, it controls weight, boosts energy, combats diseases, and promotes better sleep. It also, as WebMD puts it,” helps nourish skin cells and keep them vital.”

All of these things are vital for aging well.

Seeing Jane’s glowing health was a revelation for me. Since then, I’ve made regular exercise a non-negotiable part of my daily routine – and I’ve definitely noticed the difference, too!

2)Using sunscreen

Many people make the mistake of thinking sunscreen is only necessary when they’re planning to spend a day at the beach. However, those who maintain a youthful appearance know better.

They understand that one of the main culprits of premature aging is sun damage. Long-term exposure to the sun’s ultraviolet (UV) rays can lead to wrinkles, age spots, and other skin problems – not to mention an increased risk of skin cancer.

Even on cloudy days, up to 80% of the sun’s harmful UV rays can penetrate your skin. This is why daily sunscreen use is a common habit among those who look younger than their years.

Make this a part of your daily skincare routine – even if you’re not headed to the beach.

3) Being mindful of what they eat

Have you ever noticed how the phrase “you are what you eat” seems to ring truer the older we get?

What we put into our bodies has a significant impact on how we look and feel as we age. People who maintain a youthful glow into older age tend to be very intentional about their diet, choosing nutrient-rich foods that nourish their bodies from the inside out.

This is well backed up by experts. As noted by Healthline, “A diet rich in healthy fats and vitamins can support skin health.” They recommend foods like fatty fish, walnuts, avocados, and green tea — all packed with antioxidants, omega-3s, and other nutrients that help maintain that fresh, radiant look.

Making these mindful food choices isn’t about restrictive dieting or deprivation; it’s about feeding your body what it needs to stay healthy, energetic, and resilient. It’s about choosing foods that fuel your vitality rather than drain it.

By adopting a diet focused on whole, nutrient-dense foods, you’re not only doing your skin a favor but also supporting your overall health, making it easier to age gracefully and look your best at any stage of life.

The next time you sit down to a meal, remember — every bite counts.

4) Looking on the bright side

This may sound a little cliché, but it’s very true.

These folks have seen the highs and lows of life and weathered the good and the bad. Yet, they choose to greet each day with optimism and enthusiasm.

This isn’t just about having a pleasant demeanor. A positive attitude can influence our physical health, too. As noted by National Geographic, “Studies show that staying optimistic about aging can be as beneficial to your health as exercising or eating well.”

Don’t underestimate the power of a positive attitude. It’s more than just seeing the glass half full; it’s about embracing life with all its ups and downs and still choosing to smile at the end of the day.

5) They prioritize sleep

This is one I can personally relate to.

There was a time when I thought sleep was overrated. Burning the midnight oil, and working late into the night, I thought I was getting ahead. But my skin told a different story.

Without adequate sleep, our skin doesn’t get the chance to heal properly. As noted by researchers, this can lead to “looking significantly more fatigued, having more hanging eyelids, redder eyes, more swollen eyes, darker circles under the eyes, more wrinkles/lines around the eyes.”

Now, I ensure I get at least 7-8 hours of quality sleep every night. Not only does it make a significant difference in my productivity and mood, but it also reflects on my skin health.

The secret to eternal youth isn’t hidden in an expensive cream or treatment; sometimes, it can be as simple as a good night’s sleep.

The bottom line

And there you have it — five daily habits that keep people looking youthful well into their 60s and beyond.

The truth is, aging gracefully isn’t about trying to stop the clock but learning how to work with it.

These are simple but powerful practices that anyone can incorporate into their life, no matter where you’re starting from. But just like anything worth having, the key is consistency — committing to these habits daily can lead to profound results over time.

If you’re aiming to maintain your energy, radiance, and youthfulness for decades to come, start with just one of these habits and see how it transforms not only your skin but also your overall well-being.

Here’s to living well, feeling great, and staying youthful at every age!
