7 signs you’re a very good Christian, even if you don’t always think so

It’s easy to feel like you’re falling short in your faith—maybe you don’t pray as often as you think you should, or you question whether you’re living up to what it means to be a “good Christian.”

But here’s the truth: being a good Christian isn’t about being perfect. It’s about embodying the core values of love, kindness, and humility, even in the small, everyday moments.

You might be doing better than you think. In fact, you might already be reflecting Christ’s teachings in ways you don’t even realize.

Let’s explore seven signs that show you’re a very good Christian, even when you doubt yourself.

1) You strive to be Christ-like in your actions

In the hustle and bustle of life, it’s easy to let our patience slip or lose our temper. But, are you making a conscious effort to be patient, kind, and forgiving – just like Jesus?

Even if you don’t always succeed, the mere act of trying to emulate Christ’s qualities is a significant sign of your faith.

Remember, progress, not perfection.

The apostle Paul wrote in Ephesians 4:32, “Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.”

If you’re striving to live by this verse (even if you stumble sometimes), take it as a sign that you’re on the right path. Your actions are reflecting your faith.

2) Prayer is a part of your daily life

Now, let me share a little story about me.

There was a time when I found myself too busy to pause and pray. I thought, “Well, God knows what’s in my heart. Do I really need to set time aside for prayer?”

But here’s what I learned.

Prayer isn’t just about asking for help or expressing gratitude. It’s about building a relationship with God. It’s like making a phone call to a friend to catch up, it strengthens bonds.

Now, I make a point to start and end my day with prayer. Even in the middle of a hectic day, I find small moments to connect with God.

So, if you’re incorporating prayer into your daily routine (even if it’s just a quick one before bed), that’s another sign you’re doing well as a Christian. Because you’re nurturing that vital relationship with your Heavenly Father.

3) You wrestle with doubt

Yes, you read that right. Doubt.

Most of us have been there, including me. Those moments where you question God’s plan for you or wonder why certain things are happening.

But here’s an unconventional truth.

Doubt isn’t a sign of weak faith. Rather, it’s a part of your spiritual journey. It shows that you’re thinking deeply about your faith, wrestling with questions, and not just blindly accepting everything.

The Bible is filled with people who doubted, questioned, and wrestled with their faith. Think of Thomas, David, even Moses.

So if you find yourself wrestling with doubt from time to time, don’t beat yourself up. It doesn’t mean you’re a bad Christian. If anything, it shows that your faith is alive and active.

4) You are involved in your church community

Another sign that you’re doing well as a Christian is your active participation in your church community.

Now, being involved doesn’t necessarily mean you have to be a part of every ministry or volunteer for every event. It could be as simple as :

  • Attending Sunday service regularly
  • Joining a Bible study group,
  • Contributing to a church project

Why does this matter?

Because Christianity isn’t meant to be lived out in isolation. It’s about fellowship, about being part of a larger family that cares, supports, and grows together in faith.

5) You find joy in the simple things

Did you know that the word “joy” appears over 200 times in the Bible? It’s a clear indication of how integral joy is to the Christian faith.

So what’s this got to do with being a good Christian?

Well, if you find yourself appreciating and finding joy in simple everyday things, that’s a sign of a healthy Christian life. It’s a reflection of gratitude and an understanding of God’s blessings that aren’t always materialistic or grand.

Like the joy in a beautiful sunrise, a child’s laughter, a kind word from a stranger, or even the satisfaction of a job well done. These are all small blessings that we often overlook.

6) You have a heart for the less fortunate

I believe one of the most beautiful reflections of a Christian’s heart is their compassion towards those in need.

Jesus Himself was always reaching out to the poor, the sick, and the marginalized. He taught us to love our neighbors as we love ourselves.

When you see someone in need, does your heart stir? Do you feel compelled to help in whatever way you can, be it through giving your time, resources, or even a simple prayer?

This empathy, this desire to alleviate suffering and spread love, is a testament to Christ’s teachings being rooted in your heart.

If you find yourself moved by compassion and taking steps to help others, know this: it’s not just kindness, it’s Christ-like love.

7) You keep going, despite the setbacks

Life throws curveballs. We all experience setbacks, moments of weakness, and times when we stumble in our faith.

But here’s the most important thing.

Are you picking yourself up each time, dusting off, and pressing forward? Are you holding onto your faith, even when it feels like you’re walking through a storm?

This perseverance, this refusal to give up on your faith journey, no matter how tough it gets, is perhaps the most significant sign of a good Christian.

Like the apostle Paul said in 2 Corinthians 4:8-9, “We are hard pressed on every side, but not crushed; perplexed, but not in despair; persecuted, but not abandoned; struck down, but not destroyed.”

So if you’re pressing on despite the odds, know that your resilience is a beacon of your faith.

Embracing your journey

Being a good Christian doesn’t mean living without flaws or doubts—it means striving to live with love, compassion, and faith, even when it’s difficult.

If you recognize these seven signs in yourself, take heart—you’re likely walking the path Christ intended, even on days when you feel uncertain.

Faith is a journey, not a destination, and the quiet ways you embody Christian values may be more powerful than you realize.

The next time you question your faith, look for these signs and trust that you’re already reflecting what it means to live a life grounded in grace and goodness.
